Clinical Leadership
After over a decade at the forefront of innovation in uveitis, Mr Addison took over as Deputy Director of the Uveitis Service
in July 2024. This is an opportunity to shape the largest Uveitis Service in the world. As Clinical Lead for the Moorfields steroid implant service, Mr Addison has trained a generation of international ophthalmologists in the delivery and management of patients with steroid implants such as Ozurdex and Iluvien. He has pioneered a training programme for UK nurses to inject these implants too.
As Clinical Lead for the retinal vein occlusion service, he set up the service in 2012 and spearheaded its development into the largest and leading service in the UK. As Clinical Lead for the Ealing, Hounslow and Kingston diabetic eye screening programme
(2012-2016), he worked with other Trusts, local commissioners and national organisations including Public Health England to develop novel care pathways for over 60,000 patients.
As Clinical Lead for Audit and Effectiveness for Moorfields, he encourages and directs audit activity across the Trust and seeks to enable Moorfields clinical outcomes to influence and lead best practice across the world.
As Chairman of the London Inflammatory Ocular Network (2015-19), Mr Addison was actively involved in sharing best practice and protocols for managing uveitis and scleritis patients, particularly in the implementation of novel therapies. He continues to collaborate with major centres in the UK and worldwide.
In recognition of his outstanding contributions to eye care, Mr Addison received NHS local clinical excellence awards for the last 5 competitively run years: between 2017 and 2024. These are prestigious awards for the best doctors in the UK.
Education & Training
Mr Addison was born and raised in London. He excelled at Haberdashers' Aske's Boys School before studying Medicine at St John's College, Cambridge University
where he obtained a first class degree.
He completed his Basic Ophthalmic Specialist training on the Cambridge Senior House Officer Rotation, followed by Higher Surgical training on the North Thames Deanery Rotation, including two years at Moorfields Eye Hospital. Before completing his Higher Surgical training, Mr Addison undertook two years of full time research, earning an MD (Medical Doctorate) for his research at The UCL Institute of Ophthalmology. His training culminated in a two-year Medical Retina and Uveitis Fellowship at Moorfields Eye Hospital before being appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon in 2012.
